Pastor
Gentry was born in Los Angeles, but moved with his family
to South Carolina when we was in Middle School. He finished
High School there, then entered The Citadel, in Charleston,
SC. After only a brief 3 months, he was forced to drop
out due to injuries from an automobile accident. After
spending 5 months in the hospital, and another 7 months
in physical therapy, he was able to re-enroll in school.
He would graduate with honors from Wofford College, a
liberal arts college in Spartanburg, SC. His degree was
in Philosophy.
After
graduating from college in 1993 he entered graduate school
to get his Masters in Divinity. During his four year program
he was involved as a youth pastor, and participated in
several overseas mission trips (to Prague). After graduation
with his M.Div in 1997, he took a job as Associate Pastor
at Devenger Road Presbyterian Church, in Greer, SC.
Pastor
Gentry met his wife, Rebecca, as he was finishing his
Masters. They were married in 1998. After 4 years at Devenger
Road Presbyterian, Gentry and Rebecca (and their dog,
Sibbes!) moved to League City, TX to do a one year internship
in the field of Church Planting. In August 2002 they moved
to Pearland to begin what is now Hope Church. That was
not the only thing new in 2002: their son Jonathan Bryce
was born!
The
McColms are happy to be in Pearland, and look forward
to all the many things God will do with Hope Church as
it moves into the community with God's hope, help, and
truth!
